About
Background
Lost Landscape is a sixty-page zine which explores a selection of Tony Witt’s photography of the Mount Baldy region and tells the story of the destruction that occurred in the Bridge Fire of 2024. Were it not for a photography project he started for fun four years earlier, there would be no record of the beauty that was thriving in such a unique and hidden part of Southern California.
This zine walks the reader through Tony's story, and encourages them to slow down and take in the beauty that they are surrounded by—specifically the small, everyday beauty that we so often overlook.
Objective
The goal of this zine is to shift people’s perspectives on the way they interact with and view the world around them. We want to discourage hit-and-run tourism, and encourage a more thoughtful, patient, deliberate approach—whether in the most spectacular parts of the world, or the every day little parts of life.

Interactive Elements
Die-cut cover, cutting through the lush, forested past into the “burnt” state, visually communicating the timeline of the zine’s story.
Translucent sheet, “peeling back the layers” of the story and signifying a change from talking about the present to going backwards to discussing the past.
Pop-out map, showing Mount Baldy and its surrounding region, with the purpose of showing the small area in which such a large number of photos were taken.
The zine ends with a call to action, encouraging readers to go out and explore the world around them, viewing it through a new, more observant lens. Accompanying this is a frame and instructions on how to use the frame as a catalyst for viewing their surroundings differently.
Each zine is delivered in a custom hand-stamped envelope made of recycled paper.
